Ironing

I spent this afternoon ironing the cleaned and still damp fabrics. No biggy on the farthingale fabrics; cotton canvas and the blue dupioni looks nice (tho' it took a number of rinses to get rid of most of the dye).

Actually, I realized as I was ironing the blue, that it is actually a blue/bright purple crosswoven fabric, so in some lights it looks rather purple! Oh my ... good thing this is my undies, or my Queen might end up boxing my ears! (not really, unless we want to make a gig of it).

Anyway, then I got down to ironing the linen/silk blend, and I found that in random intervals, the fabric is puckered... like the thread was pulled out all the way across the weft. There is no damage from the washing that I could see... no stray threads, so I think that this is damaged fabrics/seconds, and damaged possibly in its weaving, and am not happy about it. Two of them are more than a thread wide, 3-5 threads wide. Sadly, not much I can do about it, except to use them as cross grain markers, and to carefully place my pattern pieces to minimize where those sections land. Thankfully, I already planned on interlining the fabric so it shouldn't cause structural failure.

On the good side, the fabric has a nice sheen to it, and feel cooler to the touch than expected, which must be the linen part. It would also make a nice scarf or summer top, should I have a good sized leftover remnant. But unless it sews and wears like a dream, I will not be buying this fabric again.
